Feedback after the visit of our oak trees fields.
June 07
On Friday the 15th of June, part of the associates (Guy, François, Jean-Philippe and Olivier) went in the south of France by train to spend the day on the fields, make sure everything is on track and complete the purchase of three additional hectares.
6.24am : Departure from Paris, TGV n°6024, off to Montpellier.
7.05am : Light breakfast (Coffee, peanut and beers)
7.30am : Brainstorming on the strategy of Ronds de Sorcière”….How to crack the Japanese market
7.45am : Personal and quiet investigation on this matter…Part of us asleep, half opened mouth…. Part of us watching our marvelous French landscape through the window at 320 km/h
10.45am : Ideas sharing
10.50am : Arrival at Montpellier train station .
45 minutes left to go to our notary’s office. We end up with an acceptable 15 minutes delay. Completion of the purchase of the three additional hectares went well.
These fields will be prepared in September and oak trees plantation is planned for Autumn 07.
1.45 pm : After a frugal lunch, we meet with Mrs Robin, from the “Pepinieres Robin” and with Bruno Tali, our talented farmer. Bruno warned us: “Sun and rain are key for a successful culture”…and a successful culture is the key element of France tradition First thing, we look at our fields as a whole: We can see very green oak trees, with loads of leaves, contrasting with the yellowing grass. The oak trees have take roots, it’s official…the bulk of them have grown by at least 20 to 50 cms.

Our farmer confirmed that we’ve been very lucky as the region experienced a wet and soft spring. The majority of the wine growers won’t water their vineyards this year. Having a closer look at our oak trees, it appears that they have perfectly taken roots. Some of them are more than 1 meter high … We keep on walking on our fields and no sign of any animals. Our farmer will clean the fields by removing the wild grasses between the oak trees.

The cover that has been installed retained enough dampness underneath to prevent any watering. Our farmer will check the fields on a regular basis and will water them if needed. Overall, the oak trees are in a very good shape. Only 3 out of 6,000 didn’t take roots.
Net net, it’s very encouraging.
5.45pm : We leave the Estate.
6.35pm : Departure from Montpellier with TGV n° 6024 (same as in the morning ?!), back to Paris
6.38pm : Quiet summary of the day, with closed eyes and half opened mouth
7.34pm : Off to the bar for a well deserved drink and a more effective feedback of the day.

8.15pm : Dinner debate
9.05pm : Free Time
10.06pm : Back in Paris, Gare de Lyon, tired, but sharp on time.
