F.A.Q
Where are the truffières located ?
or security reasons, we chose not to communicate on the precise site of the truffle-fields
(The "truffieres"). The more the location will be known, the more the risk of
deteriorations, or even thefts will be important. The "truffieres" are located
in a zone favourable to the culture of the truffle (soil, hours of sunshine, orientation,
slope). They are in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Who guarantees that the oaks will produce only Périgord black truffle?
We work with one of the best nursery in the production of mycorhized trees. It
works under the supervision of the INRA and we are exclusively buying oaks that
have been mycorrhized with tuber melanosporum (Périgord black truffle).
What if my oaks don't take roots ?
In this business the trees are generally guaranteed 1 or 2 years. We will ensure
that the oaks will take roots during the 5 years after planting. If it were to
die during the first 5 years, it would be automatically replaced by one of our
oaks.
How many oaks are available for the "farfadets" ?
Half of our oak trees are for sale to the "farfadets". Our first goal is the
production of truffles, so we will keep at least half of truffle oaks.
When will I receive my first truffles ?
It takes about 5 years after planting to harvest the first truffles .The year
of our oak is the year of its plantation. We need to wait 5 years from this year
to get the first truffles.
For how long will I receive truffles?
You own your oak throughout its whole Life. A mycorhized oak produces during
about 25 years. Beyond that, its ability to produce truffles fades and the tree
is replaced.
What is the average production of a mycorhized oak ?
We plant 450 trees per hectare and we can expect an average yield of 45kg per
hectare or 100g of truffle per oak.
How many truffles will I receive each year?
Given that production is shared, you are interested not only on production of
your oaks but on the whole "truffiere". You will receive 50% of the production
of your oaks. The other half will be used to fund the upkeep, maintenance, safekeeping,
and to send truffles ...
What is the risk that my trees don't not produce any truffle?
The harvest is shared. This means that each owner of oaks receive its share in
proportion of the truffle oaks held on the lot. For example, when you own a 2007
vintage of oak, you are interested in the 4050 oak trees planted in the proportion
of the oaks held.
What will be the annual fee for maintenance once I'm the owner of one or more
truffles ?
The purchase of the oak is the only expense you have to do. The entire process
( maintenance, protection of crops, harvest, sending truffles ..... ) is supported
by the release of 50% of the production of your oaks. Therefore, if one year the
truffle production was particularly poor, Ronds de Sorciere wouldn't ask you anything.
If I offer an oak, what does the beneficiary receive ?
The beneficiary receives a large envelope with the initials "RS" containing :
1. A certificate of ownership referencing the oaks (oaks number and name of
the land).
2. An explanatory booklet.
3. A form precising who offered this present.
4. A fact sheet that the beneficiary should complete and return to finalize the
registration of his oaks.
You can choose either to receive the envelope at your place to offer it personally
or to let us send it directly to the beneficiary.
